This monthly post will be a stern reminder for me that time is zipping by.1 I see it in the dates that I write but it feels different pausing to look back. I hope your August transitions are going well; at this point I’m just reminding myself that we will all eventually adjust to our new rhythms.

The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray
One of my dearest friends told me this was her favorite fiction book of the year so far so I snatched it up. The book is based on the true story of Belle Marion Greener, a white-passing Black woman who was known as Belle de Costa Greene, personal librarian of J.P. Morgan. Greene ascended the ranks of the art world in a time when suffrage was only beginning, but her path to success was only possible because she concealed her true ethnic identity. It was a fascinating story.
