Adding Sacred Fire to my reading list. This was a beautiful essay and reminder on this very very cold Monday in Oklahoma. Thanks for sharing your words!
The temptation of hearing someone else talk about something in their life and deciding we should be free to do it too, and eroding our ability to enjoy our own lives - oh how true this is, in so many aspects of our lives. I had to come to a similar realization when I was in my early 20s and needed to set limits on myself, my time, and my money due to working an emotionally demanding job at a tiny nonprofit that didn't pay well. I saw all my friends - who were mostly a few years older and had better balanced jobs - be able to do travel more and generally do more with their lives than I could, and resented it. Yet in comparing my situation to theirs, I was missing out on all the ways my own life was blessed, and the fact that, at the end of the day, the only one who had to live my life and make peace with it was myself.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom - I've already reread this a few times this morning.
This came just when I needed it. Thank you so much. Also, I need to be active while listening to audiobooks too! For me, they're a great opportunity to work on puzzles or play video games or do mundane chores.
I will be rereading this, many times!!
