I listened to this podcast when you first recommended it, and found it to be cathartic. At the same time, though, I'm still struggling to reconcile which parts of the Bible that I find barbaric (the story of Jephthah's daughter being the prime example) are attributed to ANE cultures vs. what God actually found acceptable enough for now to leave that way. It's a daily thing. This concept of reading forward, though, is one I'll implement as I study.
There are still so many parts of the OT that I struggle through. I talked to God about them every time I read them or think about them. This principle has been helpful overall, though it won't answer every question.
I will listen to the podcast!! Thank you for the recommendation. I often go back to what I believe was God’s intention for humanity before we chose our own way. He intended human partnership with Him and with one another. The whole of Scripture is working its way back to that reality. And one day, in a new heaven and new earth, we will have perfect partnership. As His kingdom-builders here today, we get to walk in that reality--to the best of our ability.
YES. I go back and look ahead too. It really does give us a great view of what we are trying to live now, in relationships between women and men and every other thing as well.
This is fascinating. Something I want to spend time with.
I have thought about it for months. You might get your wish here.
